filter is an eheim 2260 filled with 15litres of mr aqua ceremic rings.

the inlet(not input, made an error) of the eheim is plumbed directly to the overflows of the tank.

part b, base is 1"..top is roughly 4", can't remember

the micron sock goes into the holder

use a stick to push it in and adjust to fit

should look something like this

place the whole set up in the overflow box

looks like this, sorry for the algae. part A is a piping in the overflow box.

i have an extra sock within the filter to catch any debris that are missed from the first sock. using this set-up, my water has been incredibly clear and it makes life so much easier not having to wash the eheim 2260 out weekly...it also becomes clear how much mech crap my previous filtration was missing out as the mircon sock gets clogged every 3-4 days and i have to wash/replace them.

So this is instead a sump, yes? Good idea. I take it you have to turn the 2260 off each WC though. When cleaning the 2260 do you have to lower the water level so the water doesn't flow out the inlet pipe to the 2260?

I know the 2260 is a beast but do you use any other filtration. Is it just ceramic rings and no other media? Lots of questions I know but I love your tank and fish-just intrigued how you do it thats all :)

Wait im confused, so does water pass through the micron socks and then to the eheim canister?

Yes. Water goes into the overflow boxes, then the micron sock standpipes, to the Eheim 2260, then returned to the tank.

Okay, so here's how it goes.

Water >> Overflow box >> Micron sock filter >> Canister >> Tank

Here it is during a WC

I also have a micron ( 400 ) sock at the tanks outlet, upon entrance into the sump.

Problem is, it needs cleaning weekly ( at least ).

A couple of questions, oh Master Xander:

- When you mean wash the Eheim monthly, what exactly do you mean? Cleaning with tank water and eliminating the larger particles?

- Is your Eheim's scope mainly mechanical?

- What do you feed, and what do you mean with 50% full? The fish bellies?

This is basically how I plan to filter my next bigger tanks in a few years. Cool to see the sock mechanism. I probably will have an open overflow that pours through a giant sock, but mine will be ugly to see while yours is sleek.

Very cool! I like how you incorporated an overflow box, filter sock and a canister filter!!

What size micron is that sock? I ran a 50 micron sock on my 400g and it kept the water stupid clear. I use 25 micron socks on my planted tank, and that water is retarded clear :D

You must have some really dirty water!! When I first added a 100 micron sock to my 400g, it would clog in less than a day. Slowly it took longer as it pulled all the crap out of the water. I eventually switched over to a 50 micron sock and that would last 3-4 days before it clogged. Thing is, you need to be patient as all that dirty water gets filtered out of your system. On an established tank that's never had filter socks running before, this can take several weeks of constantly cleaning out clogged socks. But the result is well worth it!

Like I said, my planted tank has dual 25 micron socks and I'm confident it's the clearest water you've ever seen!

nice, i was wondering if it would work with my tank. The hole in my overflow is only 25mm though so would present a slight constriction. what sort of bulkhead fitting do you use?
