Took a couple of quick screen shots from round of filming we did in the Keys. Just wanted to share with you guys.
Most of us are familiar with the speed a benthic shark strikes with while going after food items. This gives you a better look at the mechanics behind it. Nurse sharks strikes take a few milliseconds. They have the power to suck conch right out of their shells. The expansion of the oral sinus and jaws creates a powerful vacuum. The middle frame gives you an idea of how far out that suction can pull in food items. The third frame shows air bubbles being evacuated from the mouth and gill slits while the shark holds the food item in his mouth.

Once the video is put together, I'll post it as well.

Great pictures, I am looking foward to the video. What were you filming for?

How far is the conch? Did you try and see if it will get it from a further distance?

Getting footage for a few different things that are upcoming. You guys will just have to wait. :)
In the pic, the shark is eating a herring. These 5 guys are part of an interaction program. They are easier to work with than wild sharks when looking for specific footage like this.

Hopefully you are working on some new shows for next years shark week.

GoPro 3 for this round of underwater video. Nikon 3100 for stills. On other filming days, we've used some pretty high end gear as well.
