I’m not exactly sure how this 11 foot nurse shark ended up with a 4 foot long gaf stuck in its mouth, but my guess is it must have ate a fisherman. Actually, nurse sharks are not known for attacking humans, but it is common practice (sadly) for fishermen to gaf a shark. Luckily, a few divers came to the rescue, and removed the obstruction which would have the shark a lot of grief while trying to feed.

Ya it's a sang tiger. They use the gaff to give the shark something to bite on while the try and take the hook out of it's mouth. It looks like the shark just took the gaff with him. Good thing they got it out.

That was actually on a show I watched a couple weeks ago. It was quite an ordeal getting that thing out. The picture shows it all, he had his whole arm down the shark's throat. All ended well, btw.

they say "Nurse" because "Gray Nurse." Actually, gaffing is a pretty common practice in catch and release, and there is a special gaff hook made for hooking the fish in the mouth so that it can be easily unhooked and released. The hook is barbless. Guess this wasn't a catch and relrease gaff, and I guess the fisherman lost the gaff.
