Hi,

I would like to know if id sharks are really more shark looking as they get bigger like 24 inches or more. If you have pics of yours into a fishtank i would like to look at it. Mine really have that catfish mouth and catfish head.

However i would admit that they are more shark looking than the bala shark. At least they have a good size 4 feet. They have blue/white color which is sharking and big eyes that make them look as hammer head shark. They also swim like shark.

The reason i am wondering is i always wanted a real shark into a marine tank but right now i can't afford that so i went to a shark looking fish but in my mind i would prefer a real shark. It's kind of the logic of calling some freshwater fish shark to boost sale and satify a need.

Haha, as mad as you sound i know exactly how you’re thinking.

If there was a freshwater fish that looked just like a shark, i think it would be more popular than the neon tetra.
I do not think that the id sharks look any more shark like as they get older, but their sheer size certainly adds to the attraction.
A fully grown one patrolling a tank certainly looks good from a distance.

But like you, I would love to see some pictures!

Yeah i know that you can't really keep a true marine shark that get to 11 feet and more into a tank but i am thinking about those smaller shark that can be kept in a 2000 gallon.

I think you misread what i wrote, or maybe i said it the wrong way?

But on your note, black tip sharks spring to mind as good true marine sharks for captivitt. They require 2,500 gallons when fully grown i believe. But the cost of a marine tank that big is unbelievable!

Yes that is why i went for freshwater shark looking fish. I don't have the budget for this nor the required space for such a large tank. I just have irridescent shark that eat a flake cotainer in 3 days. I spend about 30$ a month on maintenace of my tank and this number is going to go up.

Bigger tank means more water conditioner, more waste control. Bigger fish means extra food which is costly in the end. At the pet store i am stock to buy my food in small quantity because they are package for people who have small fish such as betta, guppies.

Fish are just a house decoration to me. It's not like my cats that return the affection and follow me when i take a walk. However i understand that they are animals and i take very good care of them. but you know it's not like a neccesity.

Lol if you think that fish are just a decoration then maybe this site isnt for you. Not being rude in anyway but people are addicted to fish on here and their life revolves around for some of us like mine (and my turtle included). For some of us our fish are a necessity to make us happy or just to have enjoyment. Personally i would love to look at fish than play with my dogs which seem boring to me. I guess everyone is different though. I spend 3 hours every week maintaining my fish tanks which i get enjoyment out of because i love to see my tanks sparkeling clean.

On another note ID sharks do look somewhat like a saltwater shark although they still have whiskers and a mouth like a catfish. But they do get huge and require a tank to suite their needs. They also can be albino, not all of them are blue/white.

Yeah if I have $30.00 and no food but there's a fish I want on sale guess what I buy... Most fish sites are like this.

On another note if you're buying small packs of food and can't find large packages around you try searching online. It might be cheaper to buy larger packs online instead of feeding betta/guppie size packages.

Also I know they're only decoration but are you going to be sinking a ton of money into a multiple hundred gallon tank for a id shark?

Exactly. if it's just a decoration why are you going to spend buku bucks on a 500G+ tank?

tankbusterlover, i would recommend you do what a lot of us do on here.
Purchase your food in bulk. Either make a deal with your petshop to buy loads for a cheaper price, or even better - talk directly with a supplier. The more you buy at the time, the cheaper it all works out at the end (with the food).

And i understand your point of view about them being decoration. And indeed they are decoration in my room. But they are also my obsession. You need to be obsessed and dedicated to your 'decorations' if you want to keep them in the long term...
Otherwise in time and further down the line, you will get bored of your ‘decorations’ and regret spending so much money on them…

are you for real?
id sharks are lame if youre getting it for the reason that it "looks" like a shark. i give you 3 months before youre bored and get rid of your live "house decoration". no freshwater "shark" will do any saltwater shark justice.
buy the hd jaws movie ...that will be more satisfying
