Anyone have a shark pond that has cold winters? What do you do for heat? Looking for ideas that are cost effective.... Don't feel like running a pool heater all winter 24-7 because I plan on building a large pond an it will cost big $$$. I live in central jersey, was thinking maybe solar heaters but don't know much about them have to look into it or maybe even building a huge greenhouse for the winter ? Any comments appreciated

I was using 4, 300 watt heaters for a 4000 lt pond but it gets expensive on the electricity bill, gas pool heaters from I have found seem to be the most economical depending on water temp and amount of water

I would like to build a 15' x 35' x 5' pond

Just to give you an idea... in Miami I ran THREE 5 hp chiller/heater units from Aqua-Logic to heat a pool about half of that volume outdoors in the winter.

With that much volume, it would be cheaper to enclose the pool to keep your temp up rather than try to heat it outside for a single Winter.
