Hey guys, this is pretty obvious that sharks and rays are related, but I made this thread so we can talk about it more. How closely related are they?
1. Do they eat the same food?
2. Are they the same animal, just different species?
3. Do they eat the same vitamins/supplements/minerals?
thanks.

Okay - since you obviously have an interest in sharks - then you really need to get a couple of good books about sharks and rays.

The reason I say this - is because this question is really a Shark/Ray Biology 101 question.

Basically rays are nothing more than a flattened shark. They are close relatives which branched off from the sharks about 150 million years ago. But remember - sharks are about 400 million years old. So for the majority of Shark evolution - rays have been the same basic animal as sharks have been.

They eat the same types of foods, take the vitamin/mineral supplements, and have most of the same parasites, and diseases.

Mike,

pick up a book and do research rather than being lazy and let everyone do the work for you. you'll learn more yourself if you do the work and appreciate it in the long run.

Would you recommend books or the Internet for saltwater aquarium and shark research. Which ones better.

also why did you say mike at the start?

you've already been recommended the book Aquarium Sharks and Rays so I'd look that up. Also just look up other reports on the net by marine biologists. lots of info out there that will answer all your questions.
seems to me like you're just fishing for answers for a school project so you dont have to make the effort.

I was thinking maybe an ocean shower curtain

he'd be lucky to even have that..
must of got some shark wrapping paper for his birthday from mommy and daddy. too bad the scooter under the wrapping paper wasn't as cool as the sharks on the wrapping paper. now mommy and daddy are disappointed that they spent $60 on a scooter and the coolest gift was the $1 roll of wrapping paper from the dollar store :)
