After putting down Jack (my first oscar) back in May, and losing Titus a few weeks back, I've really struggled to keep my passion for the hobby alive.
There are only a few fish in my tanks that I really have anything vested in anymore. One is my large lutino oscar Gizmo, and the other is this little sheila. One of the five wild caught Amphilophus festae that I ordered from Jeff Rapps. She? is the only one left. The others didn't make it.
At first she wouldn't eat anything but blood worms, but I slowly offered her many different types of food, and she began taking other types. First she took frozen brine shrimp, and then she started eating some sinking NLS pellets. She is now on a strict diet of ALL pellets! Omega one, and the larger sinking NLS pellets is what I feed most of the time, but I'm going to start rotating different pellets and different foods soon.
Here she is.

You said the other festae from rapps didnt make it, do you have any idea why?

Beautiful Festae. I think I see some Danios in there. What else do you keep with it?

75g tank, 1 festae, 1 plec, 12 giant danios.

Mostly I attribute their deaths to my inexperience with wild caught fish. I didn't try feeding frozen foods until after the first week. A few I know were sick, but it didn't help that they weren't eating. I probably wouldn't have lost as many, but I think a few of them were doomed from the beginning.

She is very pretty. I had a colony of Frontosa (10 2-3 inch, and 15 babies) that were my pride and joy. I had a red one too. I did a water change and the next three hours I watched them struggle and flop around and die. I cried the whole time I fished out the remaining living ones and transfered to another tank. I ended up losing all but 1. I started writing ads the next morning to sell it all. I was done. I came home and saw my favorite parrot fish, a rescue with HITH but the prettiest to me, and realized that I couldn't get rid of her. I did get really hesitant with keeping frontosa. I had the one and had a chance to get 3 larger ones for a great deal. I told the guy I was too nervous to get them, but he said he would hold them in case I changed my mind. A month later I got them and they have since been living happily. Don't give up. :)

It still isn't easy, but I think I am coming around a bit. I still won't get anything new for a while... maybe some tetras or smaller fish for the tank in our bedroom, but nothing I want to seriously put real dedication into.

Thanks for the compliments. Anyone know sex for sure?
