No its not
''I was told that it happened just yesterday.''
Heres three choices for you
A.Your source is full of shibby
B.your sources source of info is full of shibby
C.somewhere theres a a really messed up bichir
personaly i'd go with either A or B on this Polypterids are fish not snakes or inverts they do not shed their skin nor do they molt-Anne

FIRST

This is no shibby. My family called me and told me today, and I dont think they would call me all the way to lie to me. And the skin actually has the elongated shape of the bichir like a hotdog skin. Was told it looked like rotten vegetable, but then they noticed the bichir looked lighter and a bit shiny. Also, it is not a complete piece, probably 85% and the rest were scattered

This is a 100% healthy senegal 8", 2 years. However it does have a lump near its caudal fin, but was told it was normal for males.

Im thinking its probably a thick slime coat or something. Obviously not the skin I know that, but definately no shibby I am serious

Thanks for the advice though. Water and everything was good so I wondered what caused it.

hmm if it came from the bichir, it would make sense that its the slime coat (in the absence of other possibility). but honestly i don't see how it could maintain the shape in water. besides, bichirs don't shed slime coat like snakes shed skin. the only time bichirs would shed slime coat is if something's bothering them, which isn't good.

Slimecoat dissolves in water and doesn't maintain a shape. And bichirs don't shed their skins or molt so theres really no telling what they are seeing. Are there any plants in the tank? -Anne

There are no plants but we do feed things like cucumbers, apples, and fruits to the FRT. Everyone thought it was rotten vegetable until they noticed that the bichir looked completely different with lighter color and different texture. Do senegals suddenly change color or something at some point in their lives?

Before I left, I also noticed that it was abnormally active at night. During the day it will just lodge itself in the upper corners of the tank by nudging itself between some wires, but at light it will sometimes go crazy and fly all over the tank and sometimes bumping its nose up through the water(not breathing because it does it very rapidly and very often) after if its looking for an escape or something. This only lasts a short while though, maybe a few minutes.

Nobody bothers the bichir and it has never been injured. Its diet consist of pellets and smelt meat and it looks very healthy otherwise.

You can see the senegal here taken at night http://youtube.com/watch?v=bVuC4JWL5yI
This is pretty much normal night behavior but it doesnt move much during the day

theres no real reason for a bicher to shed its skin like a snake a snake sheds its skin to grow bigger. a bicher just grows for the what 4 years iv kept my senegal i havent seen it shed anything. and from the way these guys are acting they havent either.
