when cleaning the tank if you touch these with your direct hands will you get hurt? Ive heard stories want to know if there true...

What kind of gloves are the best to use to remove stuff like this...

The stingers have a toxic mucus 'sheath' lining them when they are attached to the ray.. I would imagine this mucus lining absolves after a few days of it falling off.. However, precaution is a good idea as this toxin is very potent and even remnants of it could cause irritation if it punctures the skin.

I think you would almost have to try to poke yourself though..

:iagree: It should be fine after several days but just use caution.

The only 100% way to make sure they aren't still hot is by boiling them in water.
If you do get tagged by a shed spine, it's almost as bad as if the barb were still on the tail.

Just pick them up and don't poke yourself with it, not that hard. ha

I agree with Mike (csx4236) but wearing gloves is obviously a better precaution. I use forceps to pick up shedded stingers.

wear gloves ;)
