I swear I've seen this exact shelf, but with casters on the bottom so you can roll it around... it's not showing anywhere on the Home Depot website though.

I was wondering... does anyone use a shelf like this, on wheels, to hold fish tanks? (I know they're super strong... I've tested it by loading stones onto them before. So no worries about the strength of the unit itself.)

In my utility room there's room for a stack of little tanks on a perfectly level spot of floor. I have a 29g sitting there right now, but I hate that it's at floor level. Takes forever to do water changes.

The problem is that this space is in front of the furnace and boiler.

If there's a sturdy shelf that's on wheels, though... problem solved.

Obviously this is of the utmost importance.

I'd go with looking for industrial grade casters and just attaching them to some super strong shelving.

I've got some of those in my store room. Definitely not the 600lb ones, and locating a set of casters would be easy. I bought mine at Target for about half the price of Home Depot. Only 4 shelves though.

Check your local restaurant supply for dunage racking, which is what we use to hold much canned goods weight. I second the need to replace the casters with top quality load bearing ones as that is where the real issue would be.

edit:just checked the link above and that is they type I am speaking of. Just make sure you have the shelf set where you want them to remain because once you set them in place they can be a real bugger to get apart as the plastic spacer wedges into place real tight.
