I was wondering which would be best beginner shell dweller for a 55g tank. I got a choice between
Signatus
Multi
Calvus
Ocellatus
I have around 3inch of dead live sand from a saltwater tank and lots of rocks.
Im looking for a easy fish to raise and breed but that is colorful because it will be in the living room where everyone gathers.

Also the tanks PH is between 7.5-8 GH is 180 and KH is 180 are these ok to keep them i cant seem to lower the GH and KH

Thanks for any help.

It all depends what you intend on keeping with them... some other common Tangs will mess with the smaller shellies.

Calvus are not shell dwellers. They will sometimes spawn in shells, but that being said, in a 55 you can have the calvus and one of the other species you listed as long as you have rockwork for the calvus and plenty of shells for the shellies. It is best if you get young calvus for this setup, not 4"+ adults, and it was already said the calvus will eat shelly fry. If you get multies they might be able to breed faster than the calvus can eat all the fry
