So, I'm not really big into any of the Rift lake cichlids, however I was looking around the other day my some LFS for Altum Angels and plants and I saw some Mutlis and Brevis shellies. I thought they were pretty neat, and I decided that since everyone who has a 10 or 25g is always told the best option would be shellies, I may be setting up a tank. I think I'll get Turbo shells and some others from cichlidbreeding.com . However, I'm still fairly uneducated with these guys, and what their setups sometimes look like. Would anyone be willing to give me some information, some other species of shellies, housing, size, size shells, breeding (as I'd REALLY love to breed a mouth brooder, and I heard some Shellies are easy), and maybe some pictures of other shell-dweller setups? This is just a thought since soon a 20g long will be all cleared up, and I'm tossing around ideas currently, and everyone always says "Shell Dwellers!" but I've yet to see or hear much info on them. Thanks.

go with some argonite sand. this will allow them to dig and it will keep the pH around 8.0. use shells, i have apple snail shells in my tank but they never use them, they like to swill with the clown loaches. as other fish go, my favorite is the caudopunctus.

Shelldwellers are AWESOME little cichlids. May favs. There is sooo much info and many differn't species to talk about I recomend checking out www.shelldwellers.com. Read over the posts and you will find a wealth of knowledge. Gold Ocellatus are very cute. Fairly common too. Lamprologus brevis can be kept in fairly small tanks as well. I am sure which ever species you choose you will love. :)
