Is this a good idea? I have a bunch of shellies in a 110 (half filled) i have a submersible filter in there that keeps the water moving, but the surface doesn't get TOO disrupted and since shellies stay towards the bottom I was thinking about getting a fish that only stays all the way at the top... I was wondering what type i should get and thought of the African Butterfly... Anyone have any hesitations about this? Any suggestions? Any input would be appreciated

The butterfly comes from more neutral ph water than the shellies, but it might adjust. I don't know anything about the temperament of the butterfly or if it will try to eat small fish, but there are hundreds of other tanganyikans you could put in with shellies, I would go that route

What type of tanganyikans would be top dwellers like that? I need something very small that sits on top like an arowana, gar, or african butterfly does

Cuz that's what i need, something that stays all the way at the top because the depth of the water is very low so i don't want territorial disputes, so if it stays up top and the shellies stay by their shells, there shouldn't be problems, you know? but I only have like 6-7 inches of water...

Can I ask why you don't raise the water level? Is the tank cracked?

Yes it is, so i made it a 1/4 land 3/4 water tank

HAIRLINE fracture but don't want to risk it exploding :-/

Butterflies only get to 4 inch tho, right? so i don't think they should be able to eat the 2 inch shellies

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i wouldn't think they could
