My 6" Motoro started peeling a fw days ago. I put her in a 50gl hospital tank and this morning I woke up to see the Death Curl:cry:

What is it that she has/had...

Her skin started peeling in round shapes and it just grew... It left a light color on her disc. Her eating slowed down and her activity did too (before the peeling got bad).

I had her in my 300 with another Ray (Retic) and nothing was wrong with the retic? There were no signs of wounds (from other tankmates), I do 50% weekly water changes and bye weekly on the FX5. Sump is rinsed out probly every 5months...
I add salt on every water change and feed once a day (Market Shrimp, once a week... blood worms fro the retic)

How did the peeling thing start?

That is so sad, I have been through the same thing. I would assume that it is wild caught and that you haven't had it very long.

I havent had her very long... maybe one month and she was captive bred

The sand is 3m color quartz S grade

My money is on stress being the cause. Immune system gets knocked down and bacteria just takes over.

Reclusive behavior, sub par appetite, excess slime, loss of appetite alltogether, peeling, then curl.

I'm fighting the same thing right now on a WC that's been in captivity for a little over a month.... Was told they had been QTd.

(knocking on wood) I had pieces of her rear fins in the tank yesterday (peeling at the edge)

She ate this morning.....

not wild caught & not the sand.. IMO

was it shipped to you maybe ammonia in the shipping bag? was the 50 gl cycled?

Not shipped and the 50gl has been cycled for over a yr... was/is my grow out tank for my Azul and Leichardti (moved everything to my sump on the 300)

So is this a common thing? I just thought it was weird as my Retic is cruising like nothing and the Motoro (the more hardy fish) is curling up

sorry that she is sick... very sad
