Is this the correct way to shim a stand?

The tank was off about half an inch, with the shims its better but still about 2-3/16"s off. Will it be ok?

This is the first time I ever shimmed anything lol, we drained the tank down to about 2inches of water, lifted the end that was unlevel and I just tapped the shims in with my foot then used a hammer and a 2x4 to put them in farther.

2 and 3/16" off? 2" + 3/16"? Or do you mean 3/16" off (X2?) ???
If it's only 3/16" off that's fine. Just score the parts of the shims sticking out past the edge of the stand with a razor knife and snap them off. The tank may settle again and be off again later though since the stand is on carpet.
