its been about 3 years since i been in the game of fish keeping. i recently got an apartment and set up a 65 gallon (48" x 15" x 17), it was advertised on craigslist as an 80 for $60, but turned out not to be. oh well. $60 aint bad.

anyways, i put a dozen shiners from the bait store in there and want to know what kind they are. i've never seen them in local lakes and they're pretty cool. with them is a JD, a pleco and for a little longer a betta (its going back into the bowl, just dont tell my wife)

i know its a little bare right now. but dont worry. that will change quick. i just need to figure out what i want to do.

I agree, assuming you got them in the US. If you're buying "shiners" in Okinawa, I have no idea what they might be. Did you quarantine or treat them at all? Bait store fish often carry some nasty stuff. Golden shiners are good, hardy tank inhabitants. They get pretty big (8-10" is common, some get to 14" or so), so you will need to thin them out after a while.
