Hello,

I wanted to see if anyone recognized this particular type of fast-growing algae and could help me get rid of it. I don’t mind a bit of algae on driftwood and the Sides of the tank, but this stuff is so fast spreading and it’s all over everything. Sometimes it traps huge air bubbles underneath it as well. This is what my substrate looks like after 6 days and I hate it.

thank you for looking!

Is this Cyanobacteria? I was searching past threads where someone had suggested trying Rid-X a while back, I must’ve forgotten about it. Anyone using Rid-x these days?

Is this whats called blue green algae??
Same thing as cyano

I have used chemiclean and it worked really well. You have to be very careful to remember to increase oxygenation though, I didn’t and lost a lot of fish on one time I dosed it.
The rid-x method has many more benefits to the system long term but is slow to act, and if you’re impatient like me, chemiclean works well.

Thanks so much, maybe I'll do a round of Chemiclean this time and see how it looks before going the rid-x route. Maybe I'm a sucker, but I'd rather use something specifically manufactured for aquarium use. I have some on order, will post results

Just a note on chemiclean, doing as much manual removal as possible beforehand and doing two rounds has the best results.
