i'm planning on picking up a 4 foot shop light for my tank. the shop lights are available in t-8 and t-12. the t-8 bulbs are 32 watts and the t-12 bulbs are 40 watts. my tank is 135g, 72"x18"x24" bare bottom with fish only. which shop light should i go with?

**tagging along**

I plan on doing the same thing. Stopped by Home Depot today and wasn't sure which one I should go for.

i vote the t12... maybe just with better bulbs.. the ones they come with usuially have a yellowish tint to them..

more watts could end up just giving you massive algae issues..

the t12's are 40 watts while the t8's are 32 watts. 80 watts vs 64 watts with the two bulb fixtures... you've got me confused... i'd have more of a potential algae problem with the t12, but you're suggesting the t12?

i'm gonna get the 6500k daylight bulbs btw.

reading fail :(

i was trying to suggest the t8s but it didnt work

T8s with 6700k bulbs. I use them over my big tanks and they look great.

in theory they are phasing out t12's so I would avoid them. I would choose the t8's they will be brighter and use less energy.

Sold! Good enough for me. thanks for the knowlege guys!

I'll piggyback to.How do you guys water proof these fixtures? I'm sure if they are in a canopy they do get some condensation. Just curious, was thinking of using some of these fixtures instead of rewiring my CFL kit into the new canopy.
