For some reason people are referring to deformed cichlids as short bodied and treating them as if they are some special variant of said species. Is this going on with other types of fish as well? I try not to lurk in forums of fish I don't keep (don't need any more ideas) but when I have, I don't recall seeing this going on.

I've seen short body bichirs and snakeheads, never cichlid though. never was too sure if they were stunted or had some dwarfism gene

I'd always thought that short bodied fish were deformed.

...who cares if someone likes a " deformed " fish?

If they like it enough to take care of it and devote a tank to it why does it mater?..

My only problem with them is if they are bred to look a certain way other than their natural body shape...or length.

Yeah them too.

I don't care if they like them but it seems weird that they are actively sought and was wondering if this was common in other types of fish.
