A red-tail at my LFS has curled gills and is wide but stumpy-looking. It's almost as if his dorsal, adipose and caudal fins have no space between them. Is this from stunting or inbreeding, or is it normal? He's only about six or seven inches long. I'd post a pic but I've never successfully accomplished it.

my mate has one of these and I've seen a couple that are a few years old - they are certainly short bodied - nothing like as elegant as a normal red tail in my opinion.

However, the largest that I have seen is only 2ft long - and that fish was 4 years old - I suspect that they are just a result of excessive farm production and thrown up randomly - I certainly have not seen anyone marketing short body redtails - not my cup of tea - but could bring redtails to the masses

theres quite a few people that have them. look a youtube for rocky the RTC, or rambo the RTC. cant remember for sure

I saw a Rambo and a Rocky. Rambo seemed normal but Rocky looked a little short. But those guys were nothing like the dwarf I saw. Maybe I should grab him.
