Short Body Barred Convict?

Just throwing a wild guess, but most of the short bodied stuff is coming out of Asia, where albino's are huge - so perhaps the short body convict was only bred with the albino strain intentionally.

I've never seen a regularly colored one.
 
yep, that's one alright. I don't know why spizz like cons so much. I told him "spizz, you are black. It's alright to call them gangsta's" LOL

Really? The shortbody is a genetic defect I forget the scientific name of the syndrome but I do know you can continue to cross sb and make the gene recessive. The genetic sb pinks have dimples in the body while the con x parrot are more round from what I have seen. I could be wrong. I have some short body green terrors as well and there is no sign of parrot blood in them.


That barred guys is wicked, thats a very compact sb. I wish I could find one locally to add to my sb collection. Thanks for the answer, you by chance know if its pure or a hybrid?


Here is a sb pink I breed, I got about 5 of them from the batch and a couple others that were 3/4.

I don't see how you can state that as fact.
The "short body" effect has been seen and line bred into other species of cichlid as well as non-cichlids and in no way does it mean they have to be crossed with BP's just to achieve a "short body".
Personally, I believe it's simply a line-bred trait.
However I don't believe hybridization should an issue in any case. If they were crossed with BP's they're hybrids, if they weren't crossed with BP's they're still hybrids - based on the revision of the Cryptoheros group.
 
yep there are short bodies of both varients most of the short bodies out there are hybrids with false parrots
