Hi all, I went to one of the near by fish shops and someone had brought in their SB jade because it was getting picked on pretty bad. I didn't really think anything of it but the lady who works there is good friends with me and said I could have it for $8 with a 20 day warranty. It's in very rough condition with messed up fins and tail area. I know stuff like they should be in brackish water when they are older and that they are bottomless food pits. Before buying it I went to breakfast and did a few google searches and thought it was worth a try because they said it wouldn't live much longer in their pet shop because they have no where to put it. Anyways from the google searches appear fly they are pretty rare. Is this true? Also, is it possible for it to heel up its wounds? I'll post pics of it. Currently in a 20 gallon tank with a fluval c3 filter by itself and around 4"-5" long. Apparently she said that they previous owner had him for a few years with some oscars and a JD. Also I added salt just in case.

Other note. He is super adorable and friendly. Despite his messed up appearances he is so interactive. He loves to sit in my hand and be pet even though I have only had him a day.

ok thanks. I'm doing WC every other day because i have to do that with my big tank and i release this goby is to big for this 20. i mainly have him in hear because over the coarse of three days he has been in three different tanks so I'm mainly making sure that diseases where not carried.

the 20 should be fine keep up large water changed every other day..keep him in QT until he is healed up and you are 100% sure he is parasite or disease free before adding him to any of your tanks..if his past owner had him with Oscars i can almost guarantee they fed them feeders...don't want to spread anything to your healthy fish.

Ok will do. Any suggestions on what I should feed him for best healing?

Cool beast! I healed mine up by taking him to brackish, then marine for awhile - like a month, and then slowly taking him back to fresh. But yours isn't nearly as ill as mine was. Mine had a gaping ulcer that wouldn't heal and was free from my LFS. I think water changes and a little salt and calcium carbonate is all you'll need to keep him happy. They eat hair algae and bugs, mostly. Mine loves HBH algae wafers more than anything else I've fed him. Nice to see another around! Too bad yours looks male, too. It might have been to fun to spawn them to see what the offspring looked like - as feeders or not. :) Let's see how it looks when it gets more color.

After a few months you can chop off most of that tail (leave the rays so it can grow back) and let it grow back straight.

On second look, the rays of the tail are just following the contours of the damaged peduncle. I don't think cutting the fin will help much at all. It would likely grow back the same.

good deal and awesome fish! his body shape reminds me of a big mean BP goby !
