As in another thread it seems my JD's have finally decided to produce eggs.
Good chance that they aren't fertile, but I am hoping a second batch will pop up soon.

So, I am going to set up my first tank specifically for the hatchlings and the parents (if it happens) and was wondering if it would work for me to take out enough water from my main tank to half fill a smaller (40g most likely) and mix with other half normal tap water (which I always use anyway and thats fine). If I do this does this mean I can skip out on the two week cycle? Its what I did to set up my main tank when I upgraded but just wondering...

Thanks.

(If I'm being unclear then let me know, writing this thread with a mixture of loads of excitment and being tired as its late at night)

the bacteria that break ammonia to nitrite and that to nitrate are not free floating in the water they live on surfaces in teh tank that have ample supply of oxygen and ammonia/nitrite you could add gravel from your larger tank to the smaller tank and that would reduce your cycling time you could alos add biomedia from your current tank to the smaller one to speed up the process

there really is no way to completly avoid having to cycle the tank before adding fish its just a question of how fast u can do it
