Well with the help of Miguel and some others I had high hopes that my beloved fish would recover. She had 'protruding anus'-what that means is that part of her stomach intestine popped out of her anus and was hanging. For those of you who have seen this or know what I am talking about, you know how weird and nasty this is. Anyways, she made it for 13 days, the piece of "sausage" as it was often referred to that was hanging out of her was actually the size of a golf ball.
I thought I would lose her a week ago, she bounced back. I got home from work, ran to my night class and returned at 930 to find the piece of intestine lying next to her. Her body looked bruised in places and in others you could see blood under the surface. This is the fish that got me into the hobby years ago, by far my favorite, and in these recent times of long work hours, graduate school, sick family, she has been my only roommate and buddy. Took her 3 hours to finally go...I debated assisting her but I guess I was a wuss and couldnt, let her go as peacefully as I could. It was pretty awful pulling her out, laying her on a towel and having blood seep thru in the towel. I still have other tanks and fish I love, but this one just killed me. Have been debating getting out the hobby for a while but am trying to not let this get me too down. Sorry for the long rant, just had to. I do love this board however, when I cant find an answer anywhere I know there will always be a few here who are willing and can help. Better luck next time.
