I have and aquarium and the top has a crack maybe half an inch down. I was wondering if i could take a 1" off the tank with out damaging it? any help or ideas would be great.

what about just not filling it that high .. if you think that it can handle being filled ..

i dont like the idea of "repairing" a tank .. only thing i could do is replace the sheet that has a crack ..

um.. i dont see why you couldnt i mean afterall your actually making the aquarium tech stronger because less outwards pressure on the braces however like stated you could just not fill it as high and save yourself money and effort... cause if by chance you make a mistake cutting you could end up damaging all 4 panes of glass instead of the initial 1 being damaged....

You got any pics of the crack.

gotta be honest that looks like a pretty nast crack.. id change that piece of glass... i mean you might be able to patch it with sylicone but it will be obvious.... what size tank is that anyway?

it's a 25 gallon

In all honesty you could probably buy a new tank cheaper than you can repair that one. IMO

yea no offense man just buy a new one that is gunna be your best bet... cause it would suck to go threw all the work of fixing it and time, just to have a 35 dollar tank explode in the long run, if its only a 25 now take an inch or 2 off now its an 18, or 17 gallon... not worth the fix...

Since the crack is at the top rim there won't be much pressure agasint it if you repair it...

25 Gal tanks are no thtat expensive replacing it is a reasonable solution...

Personally... I would buy two pieces of glass and sandwhich the crack between them... then turn the tank so the repair is in the back. If you thoroughly clean the area to be patched and thoroughly cover the area with silicone... and clamp the glass pieces in place while the silicone cures... it should hold under the minimal pressure that the top rim will experience...

If your DIY skills are questionable... I would leave it filled up outside for a week or so to ensure it doesn't leak...
