I don't know why, one of the shortnose was dead when I got up this morning. Didn't have anything visibly wrong. He was floating on his side at the surface, with a slight curve to his body (he was curved to the side, not up or down).

I don't think he ran into the glass and broke his back, it didn't look like that. Anyone have any idea what could have happened? He was one of the largest and best looking too.

Should I go ahead and transfer 1 or 2 to my larger tank?

I'm doing a 50% water change as I type this.

thats odd. water all good? he could have tryd to jump and hurt himself. harlyk had a wolf do this. im sure a gar could. i dont see anything wrong so im not sure.

that sucks...but i have no idea...in the pic looks like a normal gar nothing wrong that i can see...i had 2 fish do the same thing it's werid...water is good, temp good, no visible disese, eating well, acting normal...crazy! sorry man!

Yah, everything in the tank appears fine. The other fish are in good health. I did find what appeared to be a partially eaten feeder still in the tank, but I'm not sure if it was just hidden from me before, or if maybe he regurgitated it.

I'm doing a big water change anyways, just to be on the safe side.

He was one of the nicer looking gar too, with two rows of bold spots down his sides.:(

(2nd pic) red bruise in lower jaw. could be caused by blunt trauma.

May his soul rest in peace

yeah I had my marble gar jump out the are very skiddish and it looks like some trauma on the lower jaw like homie said and he looks really full try not to feed them so much they are wild and not use to eating that much think about
