And they're looking good and eating like pigs! With the exception of the smallest gar, they're all eating 2 or 3 feeder comets per feeding, twice a day! The smaller one is generally only eating 1 comet, but I did see him get 2 this morning. I also saw one of the gars testing out some freeze dried krill I dropped in for the sunfish/bluegill :nilly:. I'm hoping once they get nice and fat, I can get them taking krill and pellets pretty quickly.

I'm still debating about whether or not to add any substrate. If I do add any, it will probably be either black sand, like my 125g tank, or a dark brown small size gravel. What do you guys think?

p.s.- I'm starting to think that not all of these are shortnose gars... is it possible some of them are longnose gars? Just going by the coloring and the snout length. What do you think about that.

Anyway, here's pics!

Edit: dammit it won't let me add pics. i'll try to figure it out.... soon.

I'm glad they are doing well. Hopefully I can get the rest of them out to folks soon. The pumkinseeds, bluegill, and green sunfish I still have LOVE dirtdobber larvae and grasshoppers. Lets see those pics.

Just feeders so far. One of them did spend a couple of minutes mouthing a piece of freeze dried krill, but he ended up spitting it out. I'm gonna keep them on feeders til they've added an inch or two, and gotten nice and fat. Then I'll start working freeze dried krill, market shrimp, and slices of tilapia.

Haha nice looking gars!

Nice gars! i was thinking of keeping some gars. Except mine would be the famous alligator gar har har har

Thanks!

Great news, we were just sitting here watching the Nat. Geo. show Hooked, and I glanced over and one of the shortnose gars was chomping on some tilapia :headbang2

He didn't actually eat it, but he did mouth it and chomp it for about 2 minutes before he spit it out. I'm hoping they'll starting eating it in the next couple of weeks, cuz I'm going through feeders like you wouldn't believe :nilly: !
