Should breeder fish not be from the same parents to prevent inbreeding?

The thread title says it all. I'm looking to breed some apistos cacatuoides. I'm hoping for tank raised, not wild, are they already inbred likely? Should I be trying to acquire parents from different breeders? If the m/f pair I get are of the same batch of fry, what could I expect to see from their young?

One of the more interesting reads on the subject....still learning a lot myself

Very interesting, to say the least. It's a bit hard to discern fact from opinion in a thread like that, but they've obviously put a lot more research into it than I have. What I take away from that discussion, without getting breed specific, is that proper culling is important. One poster also mentions it's often best left to the fish to decide who they pair up with, but when just buying a m/f pair out of a tank of juvies, we're taking away that choice. Especially in my case, where I'm buying just one single pair. The fish will be paired by myself or the breeder I buy from, there's no choice for the fish. But, like someone else on that same thread stated, buying from totally different breeders where the fish have been imported from different regions/pools, you risk outbreeding and diluting the genes, still. Again, making culling most important in my opinion.

Great discussion there. I'm gonna have to do more research and make sure I make the right choice. That thread puts me on the right track, thank you, I had no idea where to start looking.

No worries! I came across that thread when researching Festae breeding/inbreeding. Answered a lot of questions I had. Pretty sure it was R.D. who shared it originally.
