My new 18" common pleco is awesome! Well anyways here is the question. I shut the light off the night I got him and the morning after he ate my driftwood all the way down. The driftwood pieces are huge about 52 inches and somewhere around 26 inches and they run the entire length of the tank and they are about 4 inches in diameter. I woke up to a good 7 inch chunk missing and at that spot it is about 2.5-3 inches in diameter. I was like no way he ate that much driftwood, but I also woke up to a poop covered tank lol. Has anyone had a pleco eat this much driftwood? I have never had a pleco ever eat that much. He had plenty of food too. A nice chunk of zuccini and 4 large algae wafers. He ate the zuccini and wafers too.

that's crazy - he must have been starving in his old home. my plecos eat wood (very soft wild-collected driftwood), and i have a whole bunch of them, but never that much that quickly, not even the royal. i hope yours slows down a bit. . .

Never heard of anything but a large Panaque go through anywhere near that amount in a night.

I was like HOLY **** when I woke up and turned the light on. He must have been munching like crazy! He has't touched my plants though which is good. Not even a single nip on them. If you guys want pics I will post them. You guys would be shocked.

lol wow! Got before and after pic's?

cool, make some pics or a movie!

if you get him to eat several sorts of pellets he will probably leave the wood alone and wont produce that much poop. thats what i did with mine at least...
