I have a 175 bowfront housing about 65 African cichlids right now. Filtration is currently 2 FX5's and a 405. I also have a Koralia Hydor 4 on there for more flow. I do weekly water changes and water is crystal clear, and levels are great. Nitrates average around 10ppm. I was thinking of removing the 405 and replacing it with a 30g DIY wet dry. I have all the parts laying around, Overflow, Mag 7 pump, bio balls etc. I'm hesitant as I am not sure there would be any benefits other than increased water volume?

...i meant wet/dry, just realized title says sump....

There is an old saying "why fix what isn't broken?" I think that would come into play here.

If your ammonia and nitrite are already maintained at 0 and you are happy with the amount of water movement you have, I don't think you're going to get any additional benefit from a 30g sump.

Ehhh.... WHY NOT?

I like sumps! You will have increased bio capacity with one. But, if things are working out well the way they are I would be inclined to leave it alone..........unless you just want a project to tinker with.
