I set up my 90 gallon a few weeks ago and added my precycled eheim 2215 and added a fluval 405. (It also has an ac110 but that just runs sponges that get power washed weekly)

Anyways the eheim has substrate pro in it.
The fluval has the regular sponges / one tray of prefilter/ one tray of filter floss / and two trays of bio max. Should I add my extra box of brand new bio max instead of the prefilter?
That would make it sponges. Filter floss and 3 trays of bio max. Or would this be really unneccesary ?

My tank is a semi heavy stocked African Cichlid tank.

If you have no detectable ammonia or nitrite, it won't do anything. I always keep plenty of extra media in my tanks for starting new tanks. I don't like cycling.

That is kinda what I was thinking. I was suffering an ammonia spike but I doubt it was from lack of bio material. I think it was moving tanks(With the eheim being the only reused filter) And adding fish too fast. But I added the fluval the day I put fish in there so it probably has not even colonized yet. Ill keep the pre filter.
