i have a 110g FH grow out tank. red dragons and red flames. most of them are between 2-3". yesterday i noticed that most of the fish were on one side of the tank except for the ones pictured below. they dugg a pit and are protecting it. since they are two different strains should i stop them from breeding? any idea on the out come? will it stun their growth?

Mixing the two strains will not cause stunting of their growth. If you have the room to raise the fry (or want high quality feeders), go ahead and let nature take its course. On the other hand, since your fish are still small, there is no telling what the quality will turn out to be like.

fh's are a mix to begin with, so them two breeding will not end the world........let them breed

maybe i need to re-word the questions. should i let them breed at such a young age? will them breeding young stunt their growth?

I can not answer it but I see what you are asking. I'll reword it just in case others don't get it.

If his fish spawn, will the two who spawn be stunted? Meaning will the growth slow/stop because they have spawned.

let me reword the question for you..

.. only kidding.

Yea are you sure the male is mature enough? just let them do what they do...
if they breed at least your know you got a breeding pair on your hands. Which is worth more to me than having a fish that grows quick.

Spawning at this size will definitly slow their growth significantly compared to if they do not breed now.

I've never spawned that size but I would believe this to be true and have heard this for years..
