I have had my baby RTC for about 2 months and from reading tons of posts here about their growth rate, I'm worried I'm not seeing a fast growth in mine. He/She seems to be happy but I never really see him/her eat alot. I have tried the Hikari Carnivore food but it gets rejected. The only thing that gets eaten from what I can see is a shrimp pellet here and there. Any suggestions on a sure fire food (live or frozen for example) or am I just worried for nothing and the appetite will grow accordingly...

Thanks

Its probably not growing as fast due to the diet. Usually they get alot of different things, market shrimp, night crawlers, beefheart, bloodworms, some people do fish fillets from walmart, etc There is alot of stuff you can feed them. What size tank is he in? I know when I feed mine 2 times a day different things man, they grew fast, but once I put him outside in the pond for the summer, I didnt feed him everydaya like that anymore and his growth rate slowed down. But I could be wrong. Someone will correct me.

He is in a 65 gallon now since he is only about 2 inches and I planned to move him to the large tank once he started to have the growth spurt. I s there one main food they cannot resist that I could kinda hand feed him with some tongs?

mine always went crazy for the beefheart cubes at that size....well he still does lol. You could probably just hold it with your hands by him and kind of rub it and it will break up for him.

Mine doesnt take the carnivore pellets either. His first few days with me he was all about bloodworms, now he'll only take krill.

Bloodworms that are freeze dried or frozen? Beef heart cubes excuse my ingnorance but is that just a grocery store item or fish store item?

well I just successfully fed the little guy with some tongs and some hikari freeze dried blood worms and I think for the first time the belly is bulging:D

I will have to try the frozen blood worms unless you think he can survive on the freeze dried for a while?

feed him also vegetables, fruit because in the wild they plenty of fruit stuff because i guy who owns a huge rtc said if you just feed him meaty stuff all the time he could die. im not positive im just telling you what some one else told me who has had there rtc for 20 years
