Should I build a stand or just buy one?

Hi,


Well I am thinking about replacing a stand for a much stronger one. The one I got is made out of that stupid fiberboard and I dont trust it long term. So I want something made out of real wood and built strong. Problem is I am not that skilled to make a stand. Im not sure if I shoudld attempt to build it. I know its cheaper to build your own too.


Should I try to build one or go the easier route and buy a good stand? Problem is they are so expensive. I wonder if any MFKers nearby can build me one and I pay them. What to do?
 
Build your own is my vote. It's not that hard. What part don't you trust yourself about? The strength of it? 2x4s is all you need. ;)
 
it all depends on where local is, cause im local to me but i dont know if im local to you.
 
Build it out of steel. I did, it looks great and is strong as balls!!!! Im not even a skilled welder haha... The materials only cost me $120 and to buy one similar to it would have been like $500!!!!
 
Hmm. Where could I get the materials? After its built is it really heavy? How many people does it take to lift? What kind of equipment do I need to build one like this?
 
I don't know how close you are to Zennzzo, but you should PM him and see if he might be willing to help you out. He is one heck of a DIY'er. He might even be willing to show you haw to do it yourself. There's nothing like the sense of accomplishment after building something yourself. I would help you, but I a little too far. I have built a few stands, check my threads to get some ideas.
 
Yeah, Ive seen your threads. You built one for Mike Dunagan. The problem with building my own stand for me is, after its built I have no way of knowing if its built good. Like someone whos experience will know just how good its built.
