My LFS has a couple of 2inch silver aros for $15each.
I don't know how hard it is to grow them at this young age.
I'm concern that it will just die after a few days.
Does anyone have a silver aro from when it was about 2inches?

I have and they are not as hard as people tend to say they are. The real problem is that if i get more than 1 they just tend to fight.

yeah blacks will fight alot when kept together

I wouldn't when they still have there eggs sack there very fragile plus when there that small it means they were stolen from there parents mouth which is very stress full to the parent

i bought 2 at about 1 1/2" 1 was killed by the other. i have it had for about 2 months now. i keep the water temp around 80 degrees farenheit. weekly water change. i feed it diced shrimp, tilapia and different types of pellets. so far so good.

im raising two from when they had the sacs.. one is maybe a month old, and the other is coming up on six or seven months now..

they are really easy to care for.. i feed mine FD bloodworms from they day i get them until they start eating half of a food stick.. from then on its only food sticks.. i introduce a bunch of feeder guppies in when the sac is gone, making them more gentle to other fish.. that way i can keep my arows with different types of fish without the risk of them eating the others.

for my "growout" i use a 29 gallon with the temp set at 82 and a cheap aquatech filter. i put down pea gravel and have a piece of driftwood for the BN plecos to munch on.. also, i have javafern all over..

i have included current pics of my arowanas and the setup for the larger one..

the small one will eat 2 whole food sticks now, and the big one eats probably 20+

They can be a pain to raise. A big threat is the proper food and lack of clean water.

I would only get one and keep it by itself until it got bigger.

IMO, 15$ is pretty good, in my area they're usually 20-25$ for that size.

Im more concerned about what are you going to eventually keep him in later?! Too many people see these little baby aro's and throw them into little 10's or 20's thinking that they have sufficient time to upgrade..... These fish grow rapidly fast reaching about 12" in a 10 month span... I just hope you plan ahead and not just get another impulse buy I see a lot of that going on lately....:irked:

The problem i have had with small ones is when they reach about 5-6" they go on serious hungar strikes and its really a struggle cuz by then your really attached and it takes alot of patience to work through it

what did you feed them when they were growing up...

mine never did that and i trained it on food sticks right away..

they are hard at that size, but as long as they don't have the yolk sack it is actually a quite rewarding challenge
