Should I buy a 6 inch red devil for 7 bucks?

Saw it at petsmart. Seemed like a solid deal. I would put it in a quarantine tank with a 4 inch Texas cichlid and a common pleco. My guess is it would fight the Texas.
Or I can put it in a cycling 125 alone.

It is gonna be a midevil from a chain store, you would be better off waiting for the tank to cycle then getting a rapps, cota or don conkal fish....
It would kill your Texas fast.

What's the spelling of the fish you mentioned?

Midevil is the word we use for Midas X red devil , they have been hybridised endlessly so if you want a red devil then get a nice true one from a reputable source.

Perfect thanks. Yup that's the fish they have in the tank. Didn't know they were a hybrid. I tend to stay away from those type of fish.

Honestly I was only going to make the purchase because of the price. Thought I could grow it out a bit and sell it for a small profit. But not sure if this fish is worth the potential trouble.

Wouldn't expect to be able to sell a midevil for much. That's one of those fish that many people buy for their 55 gallon, then look to give away when it gets a foot long and kills anything else in the tank.

generally speaking theres no profit in growing out a red devil. most of them end up going "free to good home" after theyve killed all their tankmates.

if you dont mind a single wet pet for $7 bucks that's an awesome deal for a midevil they have so much personality and will interact with you but it will be a solo fish as it will kill tank mates midevil are not a bastard fish they still need homes and can be a very rewarding fish

Thx yeah I held off. It would eventually go with a wolf fish(hoplias) and a Texas cichlid. Probably would kill the Texas which I don't want to risk. Then again my wolf may kill the Texas too.

I have to admit, I've been tempted by the PetSmart "red devils" they had a nice 4-5", almost all white one in last Friday. If I had a free tank I would've got it.
