Notice that i don't have any pictures.

So there is $13 flowerhorns at petsmart, this is the only one and the only one I ever seen at petsmart with a kok development already and only about 2 inch or 1 1/2 inch. But the thing is that it orange/yellow eye so it's not a red dragon, I am afraid it might be kamfa, golden base monkey or other types and all of it I doesn't like but it is 100% guaranteed a male.

There is other red dragon flowerhorns same size for same price in the same tank that is more dominant than this one with little kok, it is all red dragon and I look at head and doesn't have kok yet and I looked at dorsal fins but I black markings for all of them, but again it is young and not guaranteed males for all the red dragon one.

Should I go for the one with kok or red dragon? I only want males and red dragons males, I don't want any other type of flowerhorns but this yellow one already develop one at a young age.

And petco usually sell mix kind or breeds of flowerhorns with other species that make them look weird, by this time the red dragon actually look like flowerhorn so yeah...

Man go with which one stands out to you. I searched for a few weeks to find the one that stood out to me. It's going to be in a tank by itself for it's life, so you're gonna spend a lot of time looking at it. Get the one YOU like. That's all that matters honestly. I've seen flowerhorns that were $15 that are beautiful full grown, and I've seen some flowerhorns that were hundreds of dollars grow up to look like crap.

I'll leave you with this. I got super lucky and the one I picked out and had shipped across the county turned out to have an amazing personality. Honestly he could look horrible but if he had a personality like he does I wouldn't care. He's hands down my favorite fish and super interactive. I'd keep an eye out for those traits as well.

I liked both of them, red dragons are my favorite and they actually look like flowerhorns this time and his one with kok at a small size is good and 100% guaranteed a male, but I don't know what kind, help me pick e.e

I have a 200 gallon empty tank, but I am only gonna buy one flowerhorn. I have fried shrimp, blood worms, and hikari pellets which is the perfect food to grow the kok if I build the small one with kok but what if it's golden monkey or Kamalau or any other types that I don't like?

My honest opinion, pick the one that stands out the most to you. You are gambling with $13, it isn't exactly going to break the bank if you end up losing and not getting the fish you anticipated. Flowerhorns do develop better colors over time. Mine is a short body that I picked up for $13, but I grabbed him because he didn't look like any flowerhorn I had seen at petco. Going on 3 weeks now that I have had him and he is getting even better colors. This is a week ago and he is even better looking now.

The one at PetCo has way smaller kok but this is a short body one so i can't tell if it's actually older. But the one with small kok has orange/yellow eye, so not a red dragon or zz

Mine has orange eyes, not exactly red. It perhaps is not a pure strain, but to be expected for $13. You want a quality show flowerhorn, you gotta order those straight from Asia. And those are over a hundred for small fry. I feel I definitely got my money's worth for my little flowerhorn, and he didn't really have a kok when I got him, it just showed up over a few days.

Ok stay on this thread and wait prob about 20 mins? I am on my way to petCo and once I am there I'll take picture to send it to you guys and you guys will pick base on if you were in my situation.

I'd get the one with the kok personally I like the kamfa and kml flowerhorn.
