hi can anyone help im thinking of buying a motoro stingray and wondering if my current set up is adaquate for such a fish, i have a 433ltr tank dimensions of 59 inch in length 20 inch in depth and 24 inch in hight thats been set up for over two years now the filtration is a aquamanta EFX 400 would this set up be adaquate any comments would be appritiated many thanks.

It's really not big enough for any ray for any decent length of time. It's small even for a temporary growout tank.

The profiles in the stickies give some general ideas for tank sizes for various rays.

The tank would be fine for a motoro pup (or even two). But you will need to find a bigger tank after a year or so (depending on how much feed).

I cant find much info on the aquamanta EFX 400. But the little I can find suggets its a small external pump with a pretty low flow rate (400l/h?).

If that is correct, its prob too small to keep your tank free of ammonia and nitrite.

The tank is fine though. :)

Going by my experience with my Pup in a 72" 18" 25" which is a 150 gallon I would say you will need at least a 30" wide tank in the 9-10 month range

My little guy went from 4" disk to 8" disk and I got him in the first part of June

I do 2 50% water changes a week and feed a variety of sinking pellets. Nitrates are not a problem yet but I can see it coming

Edit: My pup is also a male Speed the time frame up if you get a female :)

I do not see a tank as being fine if you need to change it within under a year..but that is my own opinion, i just think a lot of people never get round to changing fast enough.

That size of water volume is easily shifted by waste from the fish which means ammonia spikes become a real problem.

2 large external filters are a minimum.
