Should I buy this

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hmmm would need to see a pic sounds like a hell of a deal Acrylic is pretty durible and can usually be fixed if its got a glazed spot or stripe not sure if it can be fixed but it may still hold water fine

Please note that Glass is preferred over Acrylic coz Glass is more scratch resistant and will maintain its clarity for long. While acrylic is a thermoplastic material and may react to certain acids that may develop in the tank a few months later.
Acrylic is definitely the cheaper solution but Glass is always better.

How is acrylic the cheaper solution? I don't know about where you live but acrylic where i live costs two times more than glass.

Acrylic is actually more expensive than glass. Quite a bit more expensive, but yeah the scratching can be a pain.

The tank is owned by some rich guy that owns a couple of seafood restaurants. He didn't like the kids coming up to the tank (worried about them scratching it), so he put a 2,000 dollar glass aquarium in it's place. The tank is pretty old. He bought it from a guy in Atlanta, GA. that owned a bunch of wendy's restaurants. It was a custom tank. You can tell it cost a fortune, because it has a huge custom built sump on the side. He also has a drain tube. and the water reentry for the sump is ported on the sides. Its pretty slick, but if it can't be easily fixed it could be a waste of money. I may be better off paying $600 more and buying a new 180 gallon or something a tad smaller.
