should i buy untested fluval fx6 for 100$?

person at register said itd been out there forever and owner said he has yet to test it. what is the likelihood that the filter is still running? and what would i likely have to fix if it isnt running? ive heard really good things about this filter and that people should try to get them used from their lfs. my budget is currently pretty toght as well.

If its in a shop, have them hook it up and test it before going to the trouble of taking it home.
Test for leaks from old Orings, and seals. Listen for odd noises in the pump section, like grinding or cavitation.
If they won't hook it up, and let you check how it runs, I wouldn't buy it.

i think it might be 100$ because they havent tested it, so im not sure if theyll charge me more if it runs. theyve sold my mom some pretty expensive used hob filters.

The $100.00 should be final if it runs or not. If the lfs tried to up the price I personally wouldn't do anymore business with them.
