I think its time to change the bulb on my t5 ho lighting.Could you guys give me some info.Im currently using 2 6500k.I was told at a lfs that 1800k is more brighter.I havent bought it yet just wanna check first.Im using pressured co2 system. Not sure it make a different about the bulb though.

u have the perfect bulbs already...if its time for replacement get the same thing...best k for plants is 6500-6700...a 18,000 k actinic bulb will do nothing but bad things to ur tank

actually, an 18,000k bulb is not actinic. its a pinkish white light. this topic came up on plantedtank.net in one of my thread and there are several people that have been using them with no problems. some say that you shouldnt go over 10,000k for plant lighting, but if it works for some people, then i dont think it should be a problem.

but, if youre gonna change it, use one 6500k and one 18,000k, it will give you nice color. and a higher Kelvin rating doesnt mean its brighter. its actually opposite, you lose some light but you gain more bluish/purple color.

here's my 210 with one 18,000k T5 bulb. not actinic at all

the plants use 6500k to 10000k and the actual color of the light will depend more on the bulb itself and its peak colors no as much on the K rating the life glo 2 bulbs are the ones to run.

18,000K will not hurt your plants, but they will not grow nearly as fast. I'd stick to 2 6500K or 6700K bulbs.

What he said, above 10,000K you can start to experience algae growth, although since you have CO2 it shouldn't be as much pf a problem.

Actually at that Kelvin rating, even with co2, the algae will begin to out compete the plants with more ease.
