I have had a 5 inch retic eating daily now for 3 weeks. I want to get it to eat massiore delight, but not sure if i should try "starve method", ....if so how long shall i do this for?

Currently its eating chopped prawn, muscle and bloodworm. Being quite small still, shall i let it grow a few inches bigger on its curent diet, before getting it onto massivore?

sorry about crap pics. but she's always moving so hard to get a good shot.

I beleve people have had go sucess with the starve method. But you will need to fatten up for a few more weeks before you should starve.

The other trick is to soak the pellets in blackworm or earthworm juice. If you want your ray to be on pellets, you must keep trying an dnever give up.

Thanks. How long shall i soak the pellets for?

I will continue to feed, as i have done so she gets fatter for anpother month or so, but i'll start soaking pellets staight away and trying that daily.

If that does not work, then i'll try starving method.

A tedious yet successful method is to cut up nightcrawlers into segments the size of the pellets you are feeding, then stuff one pellet into each segment and feed that way. It allows the ray to associate the pellets as food. Again this is time consuming yet worth it in the long run.

If this is to much, feed and fatten, then starve till successful. Be patient above all else.

MASSIVore is too larger for a retic. try skinking carnivore pellets or sinking cichlid gold mini.

massivore is not too big for small retics ;) pellets get all soft and mushy anyway.... i would atleast starve 3 weeks for a retic... but carnivor is a very nice pellet...

I’m still trying to work on our retic; blackworms is all he will eat, short of the most finely minced nightcrawlers. It really does seem to take some concerted effort to get them onto a diet that doesn’t consist of small inverts. It is probably due to their diet in nature, but the best of luck to you!

Thanks for sharing....(note:my ray gets NO live food, same as all my tigers)

Yes, i tried soaking massiore for 2 hours in the bloodworm which had defrosted. the pellat had softened and expanded a little. I definately saw the ray engulf some of it :D/ it seems a blood soaked mushy pellet, is much easily digested by the ray:- he just seems to suck it in, where as before, he would chew and then spit out the pellet.

Must get some sinking carnivore now.

i have most of my rays on pellets, this is how i do it also i would try sinking cichlid Gold also, i mix it with massivore.

i mix my pellets also now

1 kg sinking carnivore
1/4 kg massivore
1/4 kg sinking earth worm pellets from ebay

start with sinking carnivore they are smaller and the ray may eat them by mistake and like them

soak the pellets in prawn even stuff pellets in the prawn or soak in blood worm over night

just feed less prawn and a few pellets changes are your other fish will eat the pellets to
