I recently stripped my first african cichlid and got about 50 auratus fry, they are all swimming around happily and growing fast. You just hold her face down like Clownknife said and either use your finger or a cue tip to open the mouth,
I used a straightened out paperclip, hold onto the straight end and jam the C shaped part into the mouth to keep it open, and then just either let the babies swim out, or stroke her throat and she will release them. It took me a while to do it though and the babies were very large when they came out.
can I add, after the ordeal i floated her back in the main tank for a few minutes, released her back and not a single problem since.
