I was wondering if I should get a de-humidifier. I am going to cancel my 180 gal and upgrade to a 220. That means I will have over 500 gal of water in my living room. I had some mold before that was removed so I am wondering will a de-humidifier work. I was told that there wasnt excess moisture in the air (first mold treatment), but I was wondering if it is worth it.

I use one to keep mold and the fishy humid smell that fish tanks cause out of the air, i take about 2 gallons of water out every DAY!!!!! Doesnt effect my tanks either i lose more water to evaporation in the winter than i do in the summer.

I have a 70 pint in my basement with about 900g of water. Over the winter I didn't have one for a month and it was bad. I don't have any smell if I don't run it, but the air is thick. I get at least 5g a day.

You already have a de-humidifier in the summer, it's your air cinditioner.
Get a small hygrometer and put in the room that's in question. If it shows 65% or less, mold should not be a problem, at least based on humidity levels.

That's normal. Winter "heated" air is drier than Summer "conditioned" air.
Drier air causes more/faster evap.

just release the negative pressure in your house a few times a day, by cracking a window you should be fine....

some guys over here do it by keeping a hidden bucket full of plaster ( I belive that is the correct word..it is a white product you can put on walls and also around a broken arm or leg. )

It absorbs excess humidity and is way cheaper....

plaster? thats interesting . if it is aquariums that you have just use some glass canopies. how about a cheap fan i run one in my basement seems to help keep down the moisture.
