I've got a 150 (72Lx18Wx27H). I am going to put just a couple of texas cichlids in it. I kind of want to catch 1 or 2 small gar. Is it a good Idea. I've got a pond to put them in eventually. Will they mess with the cichlids or get messed with, and is the tank big enough?

i woudnt put gars in with cichlids. cichlids are aggressive and will pick on the gars.

actually it depends. i know jordan has his gars with a big front. are texas cichlids aggressive/boisterious? if not, asides from maybe having to feed more to ensure the gar gets enough food it might work.

yea this is also true. cuz i have an oscar in with each of my gars except the juvi. and they never bother eachother. i have heard texas cichlids are aggressive thats why i said that.

If I got the cichlids and the gar together, small, do you think it would help?

I think I will try it, but this all depends on my ability to even find a gar so don't hold your breath.

IMO i would say yes IF the gar is big enough not to be bullied but not big enough to eat the texas cichlid.

my texas have NEVER shown aggression towards its tankmates.

P.S dont get gator gar cause its really hard to make a balance between it and its tank mates.

this is only my opinion and i speak in my experience.
