I was thinking of getting a pike for the tank in my avatar, yes that is it on paint but i dont have it yet and i like to plan. the tank will be 48x18x15 can i get a pike would preferably like to get one or two i can grow up thus convincing my partner we need a 200gal

what species could i get, pics would be appreciated

i got 2 pikes (johannas & saxatilis) in a 55 gallon and they are both about 4.5" -5" and appear relatively comfortable considering my numerous caves and hiding tunnels. perhaps a good argument for your partner would be that you should get even more than 2 in attempt to hook up a pair that will breed. nothing sells fish like fish lovin eh?

any more advice?

No, you should get some Cockbass.

if you mean pbass ewurm would have thought the tank was way too small

one bit of advice from 20 views someone surely must have 2 cents to throw in

I'd say with a tank the size your considering, get a Sax species, but Johanna's are cool and get nice color on them when mature, just be sure not to get a Venezulan or Stritiga, they get 20 inches plus from what Peanut says.

I currently have a few pikes in one tank, but if you do this, do not get a Lent, from what I hear they are very viscious, on average more then other pike toward each other. Make sure you have lots of hiding places and enjoy. They are awesome, nothing like watching a true freshwater pred roam it's territory. They stare right at you with a crazy curiosity.

I currently have Two Fire Atab's and a Regani, along with two unidentified (to me not to the hobby) Sax species. Love them, and they seem to get along pretty well for now in my 6ft long tank, but the Lub species grow much larger then the others so the others will eventually have to go im sure. That Regani is a looker though, very nice coloring and by far the most aggressive right now, they are all roughly 3.5 to 4.5 inches long.

Good thinking. Pikes is where its at with plants. The only large cichlid that wont destroy them. If youre gonna end at 200g get a pair of cobra or cincta. If youre going with a smaller setup try a pair of saxitillis pikes, like sveni. Ive also been tossing in a bellycrawler into some my planted jobs, and no harm is done.

cr. geayi, cr. saxatilis, cr. regani, cr.notophthalmus, cr. lepidota, cr. compressiceps to name a few that would fit in that tank

some pics of those would be great
