Should i get a TSN?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've just consumed a few beers after a tough day so let me tell you what I honestly think of TSN's. I currently own 3 and have probably owned 8-10 in my fish keeping career. They are great when small...... in aquariums and do OK as adults in...... LARGE ponds but they SUCK. They are ALWAYS skiddish and dont have much of a personality to boot. They look real cool and all but have a ****ty disposition. They are truely a fish I believe should not be kept in an aquarium. There are so many other cool cats to choose from most if not all are much better suited for captive life. Most of mine did fine up to the 18-24" mark then they get stupid. I used to have a 26" TSN in my pond with a big RTC and if I turned the lights on and looked into the pond at the same time he became so startled that he would occasionally jump out :screwy: I keep BIG cats because of the interaction and their personalities. I love the way a big RTC is so gentle, My marble cat is always happy to see me, my RTCxTSN's are total foodwhore's.....with a good attitude. But my TSN's.............. I really dont care for. My big guy who is closing in on 2' grabs a smelt from my hand with so much aggression that he smacks his head into the glass everytime :screwy: Its just not what I enjoy.

JMO of course and I know all fish act differently, but after 10 or so I still didnt get a good/calm one, I'm ready to give up. Too much of a monster for me :D

My son got me one, it hides all day then in the evening eats all the feeders. Like Bgonz said, not much personality..IMO
i agree. i have 2 TSNs both approaching the 3 feet mark in my pond. even when i look down on them they become uncomfortable and swim away! they are definitely a fish for viewing at a distance rather than bonding with. my RTCs are freaking awesome. i can handfeed my 3 feet beasts and pat them on the head at the same time! they dont mind! i bet that TSN/RTC hybrids would be similar but i havent kept one yet.

i enjoy there personality tho. u guys say its not much, but think of how opposite he is compared to the other kind of cats. instead of just inhaling animals or meat, he strikes it with gorgeous force. its a hit dash n hide method thats kind of similiar to an aro, and i just love it.

i've had my tsn for about 8 months and hes growing pretty slow. maybe almost 9" now and i had it since it was 1.5"

very cool looking fish, and easy to learn to love. mines hardly skiddish in a dumb way

Kabota was a bit reserved at first until we put him in with Lucy the RTC. He no longer hides...is far more interactive...takes food from my hand and loves to play with Lucy in the tank. I personally belive that the key to bringing out the personality in one of these cats is to make it feel at home.

My little tsn was very skittish at first but after feeding with a bamboo skewer and now I am to the point of hand feeding him .He does strike with force but stays their and I have been able to touch him without him freaking out .He also has been comming up to the front of the tank when I enter the room .I think it is a matter of how much time you spend with them when they are little determines the out come of when they are larger .Just like a snake for instance. If you hold your snake every day from a small guy when they get larger they are used to being handeled .So it dosen't bother them .I think tsn is the same way the more your in the tank with them when they are ltiile the less likely they are to freak out since they are used to your hand being around and see it as another fish or non aggressive object and will remain calm. Jmo and personal experience.
