Well where i work we are bringing in a 2ft electric eel and i really want it, i have a 6x2x2 tank which i can move fish out of for the eel, i know how to keep my monsters what i want to know if how long could it live for in there, i know that they are inactive. and just how dangerous are they?

And are they worth it? I wont get bored of it as i have a 2 ftlungfish thats inactie and fish like that dont bother me.

Thanks guys!

I woundered the same thing about the aquarium equipment

The only time there dangerous is dureing water changes even then a shock from one would usually just be very painful its rarely fatel

They aren't really boreing but aren't the most active fish a 6x2x2 would last a little while but not to long they grow to around 6'-7' in captivity and close to 8' in the wild if i remember right so it would out grow it kinda fast

I think they have the potential to give you a nasty shock , they don't really look that stunning I think they are best left in the wild.

video on youtube of a electric eel pacu and arowana community.

Shouldn't this be in the knifefish section? ;)

id go 4 1 bruce could b an interesting experience since you work there you should try it n if it doesnt work out then take it back id love 2 try one of these guys 1 day also as for the equipment i just wouldnt put a heater in there and at 2ft long im not sure how stronger shock it can give you sure it would hurt but nothing 2 dangerous let u know how you get on =]

Bruce have you read Richard Hardwicks article in PFK it may still be on the website,i wouldn't but then they have never really interestested me that much Paul

i would say do heavy research before even trying to care for it. they get huge and a big one could preobly do some damage
