a lfs just got 2 realy nice lentis and theyre selling them for $100 a piece, i have a 180 right stocked with a fl gar, endli, ornate, palmas, and an indo dat. im thinking bout selling those and getting pikes but i want more of a community tank whereas my understanding is that lenticulatas are pretty nasty.... if not lentis then what other pike is chill and mellow? or is it more based on personal qualities? id realy like to keep them with a few other fish and not just do a species tank

gar and poly would make good tankmates of it, but beware of the indo dat which can be very nasty...

nope. gars are very docile and skittish whereas pikes are allllllllot more boisterous and territorial so the gar might flip out and slam into the glass breaking its back equaling death. dats arent too bad if u keep them individualy or in groups as this minimizes aggression and bichirs are just great with everything ;) i wouldnt chance my stock right now with a pike thats why i plan on selling them soon and doing a semi aggressive community tank and im just wondering what other people have kept with lentis or any other pikes, particularily saxatils, sveni, and some others. ive grown a liking for them recently :)

I have kept 5 different creni species with 3 different species of gar, and never once had an issue. Don't worry about that, unless one is large enough to eat the other.

I also have a large (8") indo dat that has lived with all 3 species of gar and all 5 species of pike that I've kept, and again, no issues whatsoever.

I don't see any issues with the species you stated, unless you happen to have a particularly aggressive fish in that group.

As far as tank mates I've kept with pike, successfully, with NO issues whatsoever, here goes:

3 gar species (spotted, Florida, and shortnose, currently up to 22")
Indo datnoids (3 at a time, up to 8 inches)
Green Severums (6")
P. friedrichstalli (8")
P. loisellis (7")
Mayan cichlid (8")
red snook (14")
bichirs (14")
albino channel catfish (17")
tiger shovelnose (12")
giraffe catfish (10")
texas cichlid (12")
angelfish (1-6")
various geophagus (1-6")
various other cichlids (1-10")

Actually, the ONLY real issues I've ever had with pike cichlids and compatibility, is the fact that my 14" venezuelan took over a cichlid dominated tank quite handily, and I had a 5" lepidota that ruled a 125g tank, again, cichlid dominated. He killed off something like 10 fish before I finally got rid of him.

alright cool =D they should be fine with more species of pikes correct?
