I was thinking about adding some sort of bichir or endi to my new 150 gal. tank. Currently there are no fish in it, but this is what the stocking will be:

1- Parachromis loisellei(10")
2- Red Tiger motaguense (yet to get)
1- Pleco (9")
1- Jack Dempsey (6")

I was wondering what type of bichir or endi I could get with these fish (a pair of 2), if any... Also, whats a good online store that I could get them from?

hmmm, i'd say you could probably go with an ornate or lap. www.polypterus.info is a pretty good site for you to check what they look like, as all the info (except the maximum size of the senegal) is correct.

as to where to get them....well just look around at all of you lfs's, and if that doesn't work, u could always order online.

Actually, the information for Polypterus senegalus on that site is accurate if you take into account the questionable subspecies Polypterus senegalus meridionalis which has been recorded into the 20inch range.

People have a lot of problems keeping polys and plecos together and in my opinion not a great mix.

but those are kinda rare at the moment, and the info is suppose to be for the regular senegal, not the subspecies.

Most 'authorities' would tell you that P. senegalus meridionalis isn't rare...they'd tell you it doesn't exist. Likely just a jumbo population of plain ol' P. senegalus.

well, how many of these, subspecies or just yao mings, are there in aquariums? probably very very few....thats why i don't think the 20" max should be the only number there, it kinda scares people away from it if they want a smaller species.

sorry to go off topic here though.
